Releases House Of Suns Six million years ago, at the dawn of the star-faring era, Abigail Gentian fractured herself into a thousand male and female clones, which she called shatterlings. But now, someone is eliminating the Gentian line. Campion and Purslane-two shatterlings who have fallen in love and shared forbidden experiences-must determine exactly who, or what, their enemy is, before they are wiped out of existence House of Suns remains one of my favorite novels, and it was certainly one of the most enjoyable to write. The genesis of the book is simple enough.

Shelves: sci-fi , meh , i-am-not-a-robot Surprisingly uninteresting. With a PhD in astrophysics, he even has the professional cred in science. But can he write? The Dan 2. I can tell you that he is in desperate need of editing. Everyone Surprisingly uninteresting. Just no. To be an ardent fan of one series does not mean you have to support the other.
Conversely, perhaps fandom should stop being so obsessively hungry for stories that they pressure authors to "Write more books in the XXX series," "Finish telling the story of X and Y," and "Can we please hurry and make a movie out of this book? Look for and expect something beyond mediocrity from people who have the wherewithal to produce it.
Specifics, for me. This is not a particularly well-done story. The writing is adequate, occasionally nice. Characterization has been pushed and stretched into what is needed for plot. Centuries old beings observing the rise and fall of civilizations are duped not once, but repeatedly. The plot sputters like an engine running out of gas. It begins strangely, with our couple late for the Reunion, and then side-tracked in the process of trying to buy a faster ship although one half of the couple already has the fastest ship of them all and then many pages of dialogue about all the things preceding and upcoming.
Is it a love story? A redemption story? Is it about how Abigail came to make the Shatterlings? Is it a mystery about mild view spoiler [ who would attack the Shatterlings? The Machine Person? It mostly feels like Tommy and Tuppance In Space.
Works[ edit ] Reynolds wrote his first four published science fiction short stories while still a graduate student, in —; they appeared in —, his first sale being to Interzone. He then started spending much of his writing time on a first novel, which eventually turned into Revelation Space , while the few short stories he submitted from — were rejected. This ended in when his story "Byrd Land Six" was published, which he says marked the beginning of a more serious phase of writing. As of [update] he has published over forty shorter works and nine novels. His works are hard science fiction veiled behind space opera and noir toned stories, and reflect his professional expertise with physics and astronomy, included by extrapolating future technologies in terms that are consistent, for the most part, with current science.
