He has taught this philosophy to westerners from all walks of life, led meditation groups in Australian prisons, and counselled the distressed, the sick and the bereaved.

The stories that emerge, like the experiences they reflect, are thoughtful, funny and Enlightening. Told with wit and wisdom, these tales reveal moments of compassion in the lives of ordinary people, expressing their need to make life meaningful. They are mostly stories of this Buddisht monk from his training and his experiences from building a monastery in Australia. They are based on true stories and reflect tolerance and understanding of what is important in life.

The book also portarys the humility I wish I could consisitently have. You will enjoy this book with its subtle humor and frank honesty whatever your theology is. Highly recommend it. Great stories that I have been sharing with all my close friends!

By Mornin on Jul 30, I just cannot describe this book or audio book with my limited words. One should just read the book or listen to the audio book.

I have been giving out the book or the cds as gifts to all my closed friends. It benefit you in such a fun and subtle way. I love Ajahn Brahm, but read this book instead!

I was so excited to get this book on CD so I could listen to it in my car. Francis Greenslade reads this book, and I am sorry to say his voice does not go with the material. I would recommend reading this book instead of trying to listen to it on this CD. Most are based on ancient teachings but Brahm gives them new life with his simple, more accessible retellings.

I tend to use audiobooks near bedtime and each time I listen to this one, I discover something new and ultimately fall asleep with a positive feeling.

The author, Ajahm Brahm, uses his humor to share stories of ordinary people and events, stories that heal - everyone, no matter what your age, faith, ideology is. The simplicity and humorous approach of the author makes this book perfect for long evenings. It inspires to seek happiness and peace in your life. Wisdom at your door with humour and simplicity Spreading love and kindness without forgetting oneself This narrative certainly opened up a lot of things! Pennies were dropping all over the place.

I feel content. The narrator has an Australian accent, but he is easy to listen to, is spot on with tone, spot on with pace, and has deep emotional content portrayed through his voice. You can listed to an audio sample at audible, which is a great amazon service in my opinion. They let you refund books and their subscription fee is very fair. A bit about myself. I, like many people have a tendency towards depression, negativity, and an overly critical view of the world.

This book is one of the steps I am taking to change myself to be happier, and kinder. I have studied Buddhism extensively. I find many Buddhist books to be dry and poorly translated, putting me to sleep. This book is so refreshing.

I have also read many self help books on this topic, and other topics. This is just so refreshing compared to the self help format, it is more helpful, more free flowing, and easier to get into, and stay glued to.

And since every message is based on a real life event or story, there is no need to wonder how an idea is applied, as it is in the example itself, which makes it instantly more accessible and applicable in your own life! The content of the book itself is amazing. It is so entertaining. Many stories had me laughing out loud, with happiness, and a new understanding to past pains and thinking how silly I was for ever looking at situations with the negativity I had in the past!

And it is so uplifting, SO positive, and so enlightening. This book has the power to bring you to your knees, bring tears of joy, and maybe sadness to your eyes, and change your life forever. It is that powerful of a message. You will leave the book changed, and uplifted, seeing not only others more clearly, with more love, with true forgiveness, and with true freedom, but yourself as well.

This is the kind of book you can read over and over and over again and reach a new understanding, and a deeper meaning every time. The beautiful part about an audio book is you CAN listen to it over and over, on your way to work, at home relaxing, while you are cooking, without having to turn a tattered well loved page.

The book is an absolute joy to listen to, you will want to listen to it at least twice. I hope that helps, and good luck on your path to inner freedom and happiness!

Ajahn Brahm tells great stories that engender compassion and move you to laugh and cry. So laugh and cry. Either way, it is a book that should open your heart. Hopefully from the deep profound and caring stories, but if not from your heart going out to the monks who get bitten by mosquitos, eat rotten food, put up with structural hierarchy and yet still have to deal with their own petty minds bitching about things like everyone else does.

Deep kindness and gratitude for such a book. I shall never again complain about food. Until I do. And then complain about my blaming and complaining. Each time I read it, it seems to help By Jill Hoffman on Nov 15, Each time I read it, it seems to help no matter the situation and always with humour. The " go to book" when life becomes a challenging lesson. I love the book By Asoka Chandrasekara on May 21, Those little stories are amazing, there are so much to learn about life from those stories,.

It changed the way I think in situations. I am reading it repeatedly. It is easy to understand and an excellent start for those new to Buddhist teachings. However it will equally appeal to those already well versed in this philosophy as it reinforces the principles in a practical context. Written in an easy style that makes you stop and think about yourself and your place in the circle of life. Great story telling about how you need to approach life regardless of your spiritual beliefs.

Read it and you are on the path to being a better person. Love it! By Lih Jiuan on Aug 05, Those who know Ajahn Brahm will know that he is a great teacher with a very good sense of humour. I like his teachings a lot because he uses real life stories to let us understand Dammah. They are all very enlightening! This has taught me to understand what unconditional love is By Augusta11 on Oct 11, This book is changing my life and my view of how to love. I had always thought I loved so greatly but in fact I loved with great barriers in the way.

Ajahn Brahm has helped me to love with openness, with no judgment, and without conditions. He has truly taught me the true meaning of unconditional love. When listening to this book on audible, I could feel the shift in me as the parables and stories went on. This is not a book of religion. It is a simple guide to help you love fully in order to receive love fully. Thank you Ajahn Brahm for sharing these stories. Listened while driving many times; passing along to my friends now.
